A space elevator would greatly reduce the costs for transporting material or humans into orbit.

"As soon as this elevator is finished the costs for transports into orbit would dwarf to a fraction of our current costs!" Thekla Wiedenbrück from the space agency explains. "Rockets would only be needed under rare circumstands anymore. Research would benefit enormously as well as our economy. After all we could sell our service to other states and with that produce great gains!"
