RE: Your Politics

Educational services in Communist countries will be excellent because of huge amounts of funding put into them. Todays and former (supposedly) Communist nations have and have had top notch education systems that have produced some of the best results in the world.

What I meant by the Burmese GOVT comment was that despite the saying they are Buhddist, the are clearly not. That has been the same for the USSR and China and North Korea and such. What they say/said they are/were and what the are/were are/were not neccessarily the same.

RE: Your Politics

Pumping cash into a system that has no way of improving itself due to lack of competition gives you nothing but a budget deficit.

RE: Your Politics

That's untrue. It's proven that completely public school systems with private schools outlawed produce some of the best outcomes in the world.

Russia, if that's who you are talking about, had some fantastic scientists, though lets not forget it was Americans who gave the USSR the details of the nuclear bomb, a few years after the war, not Russian scientists discovering it. The two Americans, I think it was a man and wife couple, were executed for treachery.

Personally, I prefer Sweden's School Voucher system. Are you familiar?

RE: Your Politics

i've seen both school systems. and i dont like either of them.

state-controlled schools = uniformity, suppression of creativity, schools supporting nationalism ("patriotism"), authoritarianism, low funding...

private schools = bad education for the majority, good education for the minority. support of creativity but only for those whose parents can afford it. schools promoting neoliberalism or church dogmas while still being authoritarian, unequal funding of schools, etc.

overall i think the good way is publicly funded education. but it is hard to find a libertarian approach to it. it would take a reorganization of society, not just the school system. if it is controlled by a church, a political party or a shareholder lobby then you can be sure that "molding" the pupils opinions toward the "correct" sociopolitical line will be a part of the school program. it would take an independent form of publicly funded education... but setting other changes in the society as a pre-requisite.

making use of the internet and computer technology is generally a good idea but not all countries can afford it...

and there are many other open questions...
