Kosovo

If you had to decide: would you accept the Kosovo as independent state? Why, or why not?

RE: Kosovo

It seems that I'm the first that voted a no. 1. In my opinion Kosovo is not ready to do that step. First build houses, than you can think to build a country 2. we have to respect Serbia's sovereignty as it is stated in the UN-resolution 1244 . 3. Due to the fact that in Kosovo the security of minorities of Serbs and others like Roma's is not guaranteed. 4. The real power in the communities is not in political party's but in the hand of corrupt family clans. 5. Kosovo is a place of drug and weapon smugglers.

RE: Kosovo

I wanted to ask a few questions before deciding whetere I'm an the side of "yes" or "no". But my thoughts were part of the things Schwarzer_Abt said, so I'm on his side: no.

RE: Kosovo

I voted Yes.
You cannot expect the people to live under the serbs after being threatened so many years. I think they have the right to form an own state.

By the way Schwarzer Abt: the security of the minorities is not guaranted for years. And most of the time the kosovaren (dont know the english word) were the victims.

I miss the answer alternative "don't know" - because I really don't know many facts on this topic. Perhaps I will determine my opinion - after googeling and wiki-ing a bit Wink.
My feeling is like this of the Abt.

You are right. Couldn't you have done it yourself?

RE: Kosovo

For now that the secession is proclaimed I don't believe that the Kosovans (that's the right word @ HBryschwill) will go back to Serbia. For that I also believe that it is crucial to recognize Kosovo to start international Help because the World Bank can only give credits to nations, not to regions. On the other hand I really don't know how Kosovo will develop in future even if the other Nations will recognize it. Maybe that everything will continue like it is and the Kosovo will not become more democratic and less corrupt.

HBrysch: The problems are older than 800 years. How one can tell who started the whole? Kosovo was part of the Ottoman dominion, Jugoslavia, Albania again Jugoslavia and Serbia. It was never a country by his own.

But I still believe that nations violate the UN Resolution 1244 by recognizing Kosovo and I still think that if one believe in the ideals of the UN one cannot accept the secession.

RE: Kosovo

In my Opinion the Kosovans have the souvereign right to form their own state. While I am convinced that most of the Arguments of the "Black Abbot":-) are correct, I believe in the right of every People of self-government. This right can only be neglected if the country can not govern itself, for economic or political reasons. The Problem with Kosovo is more than 800 years old it is one of the violentest histories in europe.

While I stress the fact that UN-Security council Resolutions are international law by which any state must abide, it is my opinion that the sovereignty of Kosovo cannot be avoided. It is crucial now to avoid war. A War - again I want to add - which could occur because Serbia is not allowed anymore to suppress and humiliate other people.

aus: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/putin-c...31503.html
Russia's newly-appointed representative to NATO Dmitry Rogozin said today that support for Kosovo from the European Union or NATO would in turn give Russia the right to use its own "brute force" in future scenarios.

brute force" = brutale Gewalt? Brachialgewalt? Rohe Gewalt?

Suspect

"We too would then have to proceed from the view that in order to be respected we must use brute force, in other words armed force," Rogozin said, Interfax news agency reported.

NATO "ist" in Kosovo!!! Wollen die Russen da einmarschieren???

European Commission spokesman Johannes Laitenberger condemned the remarks by saying that "speculation over the use of force is certainly not helpful in this situation".
